Van loading guide
Practical advice on how to safely load and secure your goods in our rental vans.
Loading principles
How to load safely
Distribute the weight
Spread heavy items evenly across the load floor. Place the heaviest items low down and close to the bulkhead to keep the vehicle stable.
Load in layers
Stack lighter items on top of heavier ones. Fill gaps with smaller items to prevent shifting during transit.
Secure everything
Use ratchet straps, bungee cords or rope to secure your load. Check that nothing can slide forward under heavy braking.
Protect the vehicle
Use blankets, cardboard or furniture pads to protect the van walls and floor from scratches and dents.
By van type
Loading tips by van size
Small van
Approx. 600–800kg
Ideal for small moves, tools and light goods. Load heavier items against the bulkhead first.
Medium van
Approx. 900–1,100kg
Good for one-to-two room moves. Use the side door for longer items if available.
Large / Luton van
Approx. 1,000–1,200kg
Best for full house moves. Use the tail lift for heavy items and load systematically from front to back.
Payload figures are approximate and vary by vehicle. Always confirm the exact payload for your vehicle at collection.
Safety checklist
- Do not exceed the vehicle's payload weight — check the payload limit before loading
- Keep the rear doors clear so you can open them easily at your destination
- Secure loose items that could become projectiles in a sudden stop
- Do not block the driver's visibility through mirrors or windows
- Check that the load floor is not overloaded in one area
- Take care when loading tall items — secure them to prevent tipping
